Submissions for the 2024 festival are closed.

Submissions for 2025 will open November 1st!

Please feel free to review general info about the submission process below.

Apply to be a featured author or small press

Sisters Festival of Books 2024 takes place September 13th-15th, and features a variety of authors in different presentation formats across multiple venues. We place an emphasis on curating a diverse representation of authors, genres, presses, and more. When we evaluate submissions, we consider many factors, including whether the title is a good fit for our programming that year. Not being selected is not a reflection of the quality of one’s work or the time and effort that went into its creation!

There are two primary opportunities for authors:

  • Saturday author events: “traditional” author readings in front of a crowd. Access to the venue is ticketed. We are open to whatever format you are most comfortable with, but we may suggest conversation partners if we feel that another author is a good fit.

  • Local Author Faire: Free and open to the public. Authors will not have a set speaking slot and instead will be seated at a table with copies of their book alongside 15+ other small presses and local authors. Attendees will have the opportunity to wander, chat with authors and purchase books.

Things to note:

  • We accept submissions on a rolling basis and space is limited! We encourage you to submit as early as possible.

  • Incomplete submissions will not be considered. Please complete ALL of the items on the list to the right under “How to Submit”.

  • Submissions are always open, but the cutoff for the 2024 festival is July 31st! All requested materials must be received by then.

  • Books must be published in the fifteen months preceding the festival (June 2023-September 2024).

    • Authors included in the Local Author Faire do not need to have a book released in the last 15 months. Fill out the Author Submission Form as normal and we will follow up if you are selected.

  • If you are selected, you will hear back from us no later than August 7th.

  • We are unable to reply to each inquiry individually.

If you are selected:

  • We will reach out to the email provided in the submission form to confirm approval and discuss event details.

  • We are a non-profit benefitting literacy initiatives and local school libraries in Central Oregon, but if necessary, we are able to provide one to two nights of free lodging and a travel stipend based on distance traveled!

To Apply:

  • If you are an author or publicist, please fill out the “author submission form” above and the “press kit form” (press kit materials can also be emailed to info@sistersfob.org). Submissions will not be considered complete until all materials are submitted.

    • Press kit materials include an author photo, cover photo, book description, author bio, and any other blurbs or review quotes

  • If you are an independent press and would like to participate in the Local Author and Small Press Faire, please fill out the Local Author and Small Press Faire application.

  • By applying, you are acknowledging that your book(s) is accessible through a reputable distributor or that you will be able to provide copies to our festival’s bookseller at a 50/50 split.
